Born in Duluth Minnesota, and eventually moved to Los Angeles, where he met %%A,Ray Bradbury%%, who helped him find his first commissions. The name "Hannes Bok" was taken from "Johann Sebastian Bach". After working on Bradbury's fanzine Futuria Fantasia, he was noticed by %%A,Farnsworth Wright%%, then editor of Weird Tales, who invited him to do some interior illustations for the magazine. He was influenced by, and corresponded with, %%A,Maxfield Parrish%%. He later helped the careers of younger artists like %%A,Jack Gaughan%%.
