Hamilton majored in physics in Pennsylvania, but never graduated. He instead made his first appearance in Weird Tales in 1926. His 1928 "Crashing Suns" (in, yes - Weird Tales) helped to define the newly-developing space opera genre. He quickly made a name for himself with his "Interstellar Patrol" series of science fiction stories, which all appeared in Weird Tales 1929-1930, and which %%A,A. Merritt%% tried to publish in book form in the early 30's. In the late 1930's, Standard Magazines created the magazine Captain Future, for which Hamilton wrote a novel for each issue. These were continued in Startling Stories in 1945-1946 and later 1950-1951. He was married to noted SF author %%A,Leigh Brackett%%.
