- This is the first paperback edition prepared from Kafka's manuscripts ("in der Fassung der Handschrift"). It is based on the critical edition prepared by Malcolm Pasley [Fischer, 1990]. This edition presents all chapters and fragments of Der Prozess in the final form that Kafka left them, omitting passages that he deleted, and preserving his spelling and punctuation. As far as possible, the pieces have been placed in the order Kafka intended them in the novel (the first 10 sections), but 6 further fragments could not be placed in order and are in a separate section at the end.
