This is volume 1 of a projected 10-volume project to print all of Sturgeon's short work, regardless of genre, and it includes previously uncollected (and even unpublished) stories. (For instance, "Helix the Cat" is dated 1939 even though it was first publihed in 1973, and "Accidentally on Porpoise" is dated 1938 even though this 1994 collection is its first publication.) "Strangers on a Train" was taken from an untitled and unpublished manuscript; the title was given by the collection's editor, Paul Williams.
