- Title: Warning All Authors! Your "Style" May Infringe Your Own Work: Authors Can Benefit Through Less Copyright Protection
- Author: Thomas M. Sipos
- Year: 1989
- Type: Essay
Synopsis:
Article examins Fantasy v. Fogerty, a court case involving the issue of "self-infringement" of copyright. In 1970 John Fogerty wrote the song, "Run From The Jungle," and assigned the copyright. In 1984 he wrote "The Old Man Down The Road." His second song was alleged to have infringed the copyright to his first song, which he no longer owned. This article examines how an author with a specific or limited range of style may run the risk of being accused of infringing his or her own past work.
