The illustrations are 15 among 18 published in the 18-part serial. Most are legibly lettered "H. Lanos", many lettered "Acme" (the engraver presumably); both signatures are remarkably square.

Frontispiece (image 8) "The Destruction of the Aeropile" illustrates the last serial instalment (Part 18 of 18). Its publication in the US serial: Harper's Weekly 1899-05-06 page 451. Indeed, it illustrates the latter part of the last instalment, which is cut entirely in the 1899 revision; not represented in the text published here! That is serial Chapter XXVI, "From the Hill-Side": A shepherd discovers Graham badly injured, and another man dead, after the crash of two aeropiles.
