• Notes: "Fully Illustrated" The issue that is described and pictured is a Hardcover copy. This title was also issued in a paper edition, and I belive that the wraps issue came first, as that is what is listed in Publishers Weekly "Weekly Record" section on June 11, 1898. A listing for both Paper and Hardcover editions can be seen in "A Cumulated Index to the Books of 1898-99, page 327. Both are also listed in "The Bookseller, Newsdealer and Stationer for Feb. 1, 1899. With paper at $0.50 and cloth at $1.00. The Hardcover issue does not mention what series it came from, so unless a publisher's ad can be found that mentions the series for the hardcover there is no way to know. The book is illustrated with several full page black and white photo illustrations. In the three copies I have been able to examine the illustrations were located at Frontispiece, 36, 96, 192, 216, 250, 300. I have seen some copies described as having 8 illustrations, but have never seen one with 8 plates. I contacted some of the libraries that listed this title with 8 plates, and in all cases I was told that the copy held had only 7 plates. The copyright date has the last digit damaged in all copies examined and looks more like a 3 than an 8.
