- Notes:
- First edition, third state. Teerink's "B" state. Published in December, 1726 in 2 volumes.
- The "B" state is identifiable primarily from the continuous page numbering in the 2 volumes. The earlier A and AA states used page numbering for each of the four parts; this edition uses continuous pagination counts through the two volumes, specifically: Vol. I: viii + [4] + 148 + [6] + (149)-310; Vol. II: [6] + 154 + [8] + (155)-353 + [1]. Includes a 16-page publisher's catalog at the end of vol. 2.
Two additional points for this state worth mentioning are: (1) The word "Captain" on the title page, in the phrase "first a Surgeon, and then a Captain of several ships" appears all on the same line; it is split as "Cap-" "tain" on the earlier two printings; (2) The unusual comma separated Roman numeral date "M,DCC,XXVI" was not used on the earlier states.z - This edition is now generally viewed by scholars as a third edition (not as a third printing of the first edition), but was traditionally viewed as part of the first edition. See Swift's "Bibliographic Comments" for further details.
- Published in 4 volumes; title page of vol. 1 shown here.
