    • The first printing is distinguished by the occurrence on p. 9 of a marginal note reading "Although we find this circumstance recorded as a "singular" one, in Mr. Pickwick's notebook, we cannot refrain from humbly expressing our dissent from that learned authority." This was removed from later printings.
