Foreword by Albert B. Lord. First Oxford World Classics edition in 1999, reprinted in 2008. PV1's copy, purchased June 2022 from Amazon.com, shows 13th printing (no date). Lönnrot's first edition (in Finnish) was issued in 1835. The World's Classics 2008 reissue is the same book as the 1989 edition, except that it is trade paper, and alters the display of cover art. Painting used for cover is a detail of "Defending the Sampo" by artist Akseli Gallen-Kallela (1896, now in Turku Museum). Title page subtitle: "An Epic Poem After Oral Tradition." Translation is in free verse.
