Dedication is a short appreciation to Maurice Maeterlinck, author of The White Ant. Separately listed because of connection to the new introductory material.
    • Apparatus for the Detection of Substratum Communication Among Termites is from Science, June 21, 1929, [Vol. LXIX, No. 1799] with notation directly beneath. Unclear if this was original material or editorial material inserted. Possibly it is all art as there is an art credit for the page, but that art is not signed.
