The Foundation Trilogy

Overview:

  • Title: The Foundation Trilogy
  • Author: Isaac Asimov
  • Year: 1988
  • Publisher: The Easton Press
  • Pages: xiii+510+[3]
  • Binding: Hardcover
  • Type: Omnibus
  • Title Reference: Second Foundation
  • Notes:
    • "COLLECTOR'S EDITION" (over) "Bound in Genuine Leather" stated on the title page.
    • "The special contents of this edition are copyright © 1988 by The Easton Press..." stated on the copyright page. No stated date of publication.
    • This is a signed limited edition of an unknown number of copies and was available by subscription only.
    • Signature sheet with the statement "This leather-bound Easton Press Collector's Edition is signed by Isaac Asimov", followed by the author's signature, is the first page after the loose front endpaper.
    • There are known unsigned copies, so it's probable that future printings did not include the signature plate.
    • One of The Masterpieces of Science Fiction series, indicated by the logo printed on the endpapers. This is the same logo used as the graphic on this edition's cover.
    • No ISBN, no printed price, and no dustjacket as issued.
    • Unlike most books in this series, the title and author are credited on the front cover.
    • The uncredited illustrative cover design is repeated on the back, but larger and without the title and author credit.
    • Pages are gilt-edged and there is a white satin bookmark bound into the book.
    • Instead of the usual single frontispiece, this edition includes three full-color plates (one for each work), printed on unnumbered glossy pages. They are the same Michael Whelan artwork (without text) commissioned by Del Rey for their 1986 reprints of the trilogy.
    • "Collector's Notes" (uncredited) are on a double-sided laid-in sheet.
    • Unlike most of the volumes in this Easton Press series, this edition appears to be new and not a facsimile reprint of an earlier edition. Unlike most one-volume editions of the trilogy, this one has continuous pagination.
    • Unsigned copies of a new printing of this edition were also part of Easton Press's "Isaac Asimov's Foundation Series" (item 1562-003). The verifier is not aware of what changes may have occurred in the new printing.
    • Verified copy was purchased for approximately $40.00 from the publisher.
