According to the author's note, this is the definitive version... the book as it was originally written. Ben Bova (analog) rejected You Can Never Go Back (here part of the Sergeant Mandella section) when the novel was serialized; this part was published in Amazing. The early book version was based on the Analog version 'with more adult language and situations.' The original version was restored in 1991.
