- A limitation sheet appears after the front loose endpaper with the following statements: "STARDUST" (over) "The Gift Edition" (over) "This Edition is Limited to 2,000 Signed and Numbered Copies". Below this is a line on which the copy number is handwritten. This is followed by the author's signature above his printed name at the bottom of the page.
- Issued without dustjacket in a small trim size (5" x 7½"). Fully bound in illustrated cloth and boxed in a matching clothbound slipcase, which has no illustration or text, just a small cutout in which a small portion of the book's front cover illustration is visible. - A full-color frontispiece printed on slick paper appears on the page before the full title page. This is a different illustration than in the regular "Gift Edition".
- "Original frontispiece and chapter-opening art by Charles Vess" stated on the title page.
- The complete Library of Congress Cataloging-in-Publication data appears on the copyright page with the statement that it catalogs the 2001 Harper Perennial edition along with its ISBN: 0-06-093471-9. As of 2012-11-13, there is no record on the Library of Congress website for the stated LCCN: 00-065242.
- The ISBN for this edition is stated below the LoC CiP data: 978-0-06-222083-7.
- The undated "Introduction" is possibly new to this edition, but nothing in the text would indicate it. The "Acknowledgments" (page 281-283) adds a new section to the original 1998 acknowledgments, and is author-dated "April 2012".
- The same quarter-page illustration appears as a chapter-header for each chapter and the epilogue. It is a B&W illustration with a blue overlay.
- "Cover design by Jon Contino" printed on what appears to be a non-removable sticker on the back of the book. This sticker also prints the ISBN-13 above a barcode, and a secondary barcode with "15000" printed above it. This is the only indication of the retail price.
