- Pages: 191

- Notes: First American Edition with "first edition" stated on the copyright page. Bound in blue cloth. The dust jacket has a printed price of $2.75 in the upper right corner of the front flap. The rear jacket flap has a review of the author's "Detectives in Togas". And the book is printed on paper that does not brown easily. There is another issue that states "first edition" on the copyright page that is bound in a green paper over boards. It has a similar dust jacket with the same price, but the rear flap is blank. And the text is printed on cheap paper that normally browns badly. Although this green boards book is not marked as a Book Club, I believe it is one. The poor paper and the lack of a review on the rear flap is telling. The Book Club probably did not carry "Detectives in Togas" and so they removed the review of the book. The cheap binding and paper is similar to the materials used by Weekly Reader, but they normally marked their editions. Later trade printings of this title are found in a blue cloth and printed on good quality paper similar to the issue first mentioned above. Weekly Reader Children's Book Club had a bad habit of not removing the "first edition" statement from the copyright pages of titles that they republished, and I suspect this Book Club publisher did the same thing. I own copies of both issues mentioned above as well as a 4th trade printing marked with D.9.64 on the copyright page for (4th printing.September.1964).
