    - Per front flap of dust jacket, this book is "a completely revised edition" of Coggins' and Pratt's 1951 book "Rockets, Jets, Guided Missiles and Space Ships" in which "Editor Willy Ley has provided the latest information to bring the story up to date." In his Introduction to this 1958 revision, Ley notes that he and Fletcher Pratt spent time in early 1956 "going through the [1951] first edition of this book, page by page, thinking about new material and discussing changes. Neither of us dreamed at that time that 'Project Vanguard', the announced American artificial satellite, would not be the first artificial satellite to take up an orbit around the earth. And we expected even less that Fletcher, just a few months after our discussion, would suddenly take ill and die. So it fell to me to make the changes which he probably would have made if he were still alive."
