Overview:
- Title: Metamorphoses
- Author: Apuleius, Coluccio Salutati
- Year: 1379
- Publisher:
- Binding: other
- Type: Novel
- Title Reference: Metamorphoses
- Notes:
- Codex/manuscript.
- The original manuscript was transcribed earlier in the 14th century, but the importance of this particular manuscript is the additions to it by Salutati (listed here as co-author) which were done "probably in the 1370's" (Gaisser, p. 135).
- Salutati re-structures the prologue to the work into verse form. To this modified prologue, he adds additional prefatory material: a brief profile of Apuleius, and an explanation of the meter in the prologue. It appears that he mistakenly believes the versed form of the prologue was Apuleius' intent. Several later versions of the work include this prefatory material.
- Now in London at the British Library as manuscript "Harley 4838".
- For additional details, see Gaisser pp. 135-137, 311-313.
