- Transcription of the 1859 Geo. G. Evans edition (Philadelphia)
- Title screens: -- (four lines, all caps) "Written By Himself. // Edited By // Dr. R. Shelton // Mackenzie." -- "Entered ... 1859, by G. G. Evans ..." ("G. G.", not "Geo. G.") "Editor's Preface" closes -- "I have added an Index to this volume, which I trust will be accepted as useful." -- (two lines, all caps) "R. Shelton Mackenzie. // Philadelphia, Sept. 26, 1859."
- This edition does not contain the "Translator's Preface" of the Chapman & Hall edition, which closes (two lines, all caps): "Lascelles Wraxall. // Kensington, May, 1859." The translation appears to be identical. Some later editions identify MacKenzie as the translator, apparently by mistake. Presumably, he contributed editorial changes such as "honour" = "honor" and "skilful" = "skillful" as well as the Index.
