The short novel 'An Invisible War' appears here serialized in the first of two parts. In the later 2006 print publication (and simultaneous re-release of the Grantville Gazette II ebook) it was combined to appear whole in a single printed volume.
The short story 'Steps in the Dance' saw its first publication as a bonus story in the 2006 print edition (and simultaneous re-release of the Grantville Gazette II ebook). It was not included here in the original electronic magazine edition.
The preface to the original electronic magazine edition is materially different from the print and republished preface. While some portions (paragraphs) appear in both, each is a different work with a different intended audience.
The conversational Afterword by Eric Flint saw its first publication as a bonus essay in the 2006 print edition (and simultaneous re-release of the Grantville Gazette II ebook). It was not included here in the original electronic magazine edition. Two subsections of the Afterword appear listed as independent items in the Printed (and republished) Table of Contents, but upon examination they are part of the Afterword, and retain the Afterword page header even though they appear after the Editors by-line at the end of the 'conversational' portion of the Afterword. These two sections are entitled 'Images', and 'Submissions to the Magazine'. Here in the original electronic magazine edition these two sections appear without the formal Afterword wrapper as an 'Authors Note:' appended to the end of the magazine. This 'Authors Note:' was fixed material which did not change issue to issue and is not indexed separately below.
The original electronic Grantville Gazette II was republished as both a print edition hardcover and new ebook based on the hardcover in March of 2006. Those other editions can be found described in separate publication listings by clicking on 'Title Reference' above.
The cover of this edition is a detail from 'Battle of Køge Bay' by Claus Møinichen painted in 1686. It was originally selected as being the closest semi-period (~55 years away from the books events) piece of art to resemble the Baen motif of 'Exploding Spaceships'.
The print and ebook edition later substituted an original work by Tom Kidd with a tie in to the bonus story 'Steps in the Dance' by Eric Flint The ebook is unpaginated.
