  • This is the first of five (or six) volumes of Gespensterbuch (The Book of Ghosts) [Tr. Gespenter:Ghost, Buch:Book]. This first two volumes of this publication are the source of the stories that inspired the authors of the original Frankenstein and Vampire stories of the 19th Century.

  • The table of contents severely abbreviates the names of the editors. Those contents written by the editors are indexed using the same name form as used for the book title page.
  • First published in 1810, The 1810 edition is distinguished form the much more common 1811 edition, only by a change in the year on the title page, and the inclusion of a color frontispiece, as opposed to the black and white one found in later printings. None of the online scans to date have been of the 1810 edition, only the 1811. Those scans are what is linked above.
