Notes: Cover from Second Edition copy, which was the first edition with Robert Clarke on the title page. The price of $2.00 is from Publishers Weekly from April 4, 1896. Cincinnati : Robert Clarke Co., 1896. "SECOND EDITION" stated on the title page (actually Second Printing). No date on the title page. I belive all later Clarke editions had a title page date, but I have not seen all of them. Listed as Now Ready in Publishers Weekly March 14, 1896. The book was reprinted four more times in 1896, twice in 1897, once in 1899, and the final Robert Clarke printing was in January 1901. The back of the title page lists copyright dates of 1895 and 1896. The pages are printed on clay paper and make a heavy book. Also the weight of the pages has caused many copies to come loose in the binding. I have seen and handled many copies of this title over the years, and for many years the only problem with finding this book was in finding a copy in nice condition.
