Overview:
- Title: Arabian Nights Entertainments
- Author: Antoine Galland
- Year: 1725
- Publisher: Osborn & Longman
- Binding: Hardcover
- Type: Novel
- Title Reference: Arabian Nights Entertainments
- Notes: In 12 volumes. Uncredited English translation from the French edition of Anotine Galland. Data from WorldCat. This is the first Longman edition, which was reprinted many times during the rest of this century. See the title record for details on these printings. There are several instances where, say, a "10th edition" exists where it appears to be published by another company. It is fairly clear that this is referring to the 10th edition of Longman's version, but it's unclear whether Longman printed it for someone else, with their imprint, or whether someone else is essentially duplicated that edition of Longman. We enter books here as if the former were true.
The 1789 edition, in 4 volumes, has 3 volumes freely downloadable from Google Books: Vol. 1, Vol. II, and Vol. IV. The missing 3rd volume can be downloaded in the 1792 edition.
The 1772 edition is the first one known to contain the last half of the Galland French translation; earlier editions only include up to the story of Camaralzaman.
We have a page count for the 1783 edition of 320 + 314 + 310 + 312 pp.
The 1725-1726 editions appear to be listed as published by Osborn and Longman. It may be that Longman continued edition numbers from the Bell/Taylor edition numbers. This would imply, then, the 1925 "4th edition" was a Longman reprint of the Bell edition, and that the 1926 "7th edition" was the first true Longman edition (i.e. after W. Taylor's 6th edition).
