Synopsis:

I owe credit to the excellent book, "Flappers, Bootleggers, Typhoid Mary and The Bomb," for this one. It's the story of a group of gullible sf fans in the mid-thirties who are conned into a goofy scheme to contact aliens from Alpha Centauri through overpriced fireworks displays. Gardner Dozois liked it well enough to give it mention in that year's "Year's Best Science-Fiction." Thanks, Gardner!
