  • Notes: Stated First Printing, January 1962 / 5 6 7 8 9 10 11 12. There is no advertising or other matter that could be used to help date the publication. The catalog # is Signet 451-E8575-$1.75 on the front cover and the spine has E-8575 at the top plus the ISBN 0-451-08575-2 175 at the bottom. There is no bar code. This dates the publication to the mid to late 1970s because in the early 1970s Signet would have used 451-E8575-175 at the bottom of the spine and after ~1980 they would have a barcode on the back. Note â€" the printing date for this publication is unknown. Rather than using 0000-00-00 this publication in ISFDB has been dated using the YYYY-MM of the first printing and the day of the month is set to the printing number to get the publication sorted into a reasonable spot relative to other printings for this edition. The copyright page states “This novel was published in slightly different form, in The Magazine of Fantasy and Science Fiction in installments entitled Hothouse, Nomansland, Undergrowth, Timberline and Evergreen. Copyright © 1960,1961, by Mercury Press, Inc.” Within the body of the publication there's little evidence of the fixup. The story is divided into three parts and overall has XXVI (26) chapters with part 1 starting on chapter I (1 on page 5) part 2 starting on chapter XI (11 on page 68) and part 3 starting on chaper XX (20 on page 135). As a result, this ISFDB record links to the contained stories without page numbers. The cover artist is not credited nor is a signature visible.
