Notes:
Originally intending to become an art historian, Meltzoff attended the City College of New York, New York University's Institute of Fine Art, and the Art Student's League. In the 1930's he began doing artwork for mainstream magazines such as Life, The National Geographic, and The Saturday Evening Post, and was the main cover illustrator for Scientific American during the 1960's. Two of his most-important students were Paul Lehr and John Schoenherr. Although highly influential, Meltzoff claims to have only produced about seven genre-related works.
