Notes:

In the 1950's, illustrator Krenkel collaborated with friends Al Williamson and Frank Frazetta on many comic book stories, most notably for EC Comics' science fiction titles. He also did illustrations for science fiction magazines. In the 60's he did the work for which he is probably best known, cover paintings and title page drawings for 20 novels by Edgar Rice Burroughs published by Ace Books. He also did covers and interior illustrations for a number of hardcover editions of Burroughs books published by Canaveral Press, and covers for a number of other Ace and Lancer paperbacks. In the 70's he illustrated several paperbacks for DAW Books, and did lavish illustrations for hardcover editions of Robert E. Howard's historical fiction published by Donald Grant. In the 60's and 70's many of his drawings were published in "Amra", the Robert E. Howard fanzine, and in various Edgar Rice Burroughs fanzines. At least 2 books have been devoted to his work, "Cities and Scenes from the Ancient World" (1974, Owlswick Press) and "Swordsmen and Saurians" (1989, Eclipse Books).
