- Title Reference: A Goddess of Africa: A Story of the Golden Fleece
- Notes: New York : F. Tennyson Neely, c1897, [date of publication not identified] This copy has been rebound in a red cloth and a silver ink pen has been used to write the title and author on the front cover and the spine. The author's name has been misspelled Rathbone on the cover. Most copies found are later issues and have either Hobart or Street and Smith as the publisher. This copy has the original publisher of F. Tennyson Neely on the title page and the copyright page. The paper has quite browned on this copy which makes me think this was probably a wrappers issue of this title originally. Also there are some small bits of evidence of the original wrapper on the last page of the original book, before the newer end page used in the rebinding in cloth. This copy has a book plate of Oswald Train dated 2/19/53 on the inside of the front board. I wonder if he caused this book to be rebound. The book is 267 pages of text plus 20 pages of the publishers ads at the back of the book. In my experience Neely published copies of this title are quite scarce. A later Street & Smith edition is listed in Bleiler78. It is also listed in the Stuart Teitler American Collection of Lost Race Fiction. Teitler also mentions a No. 101 in The Eagle Library (C.1899) which is a Street & Smith publication. Issued in the Imperial Library in paper at 25 cents and in cloth at 50 cents.
